Completed draft

this is my finished work for my AS media course work.

Overall I am happy with the way that my magazine turned out. I think that I have used all of the conventions i could in the making of my music magazine “Hurt”. I have created a Rock magazine with a appearance that stands out due to the use of bold fonts and eye catching colors. I think my strongest part of my product is the content page due to what is my favorite image and the layout of the content information
i am happy with the way they turned out as the colors i chose complement each other. i think that all of my work looks like a kerrang magazine because the layout is similar and looks just as good. i have also included the basic conventions such as
coverlines, pugs etc.
I kept to my house style of red, black and white throughout my magazine as this was quite important as all of the rock magazines never break the house style they always keep to it on every page. By doing the same I believe that it made my magazine look more professional.

Drafting and Planning (double page spread)

this is my finished double page spread. the font in the top right corner inst actually that font. i couldn't get the font i wanted in the common room.i used the red and black color scheme as they are both strong colors that work well together to give the text a strong background and good visibility. i used a bold font for the pull quote so it will stand out even more. i think this gave it a better look as well as making it readable. i also used a red bold font to show the questions. i did this as it separates the questions so the reader knows what question they are reading. it also allows the reader to read the questions that have been asked clearly.

Drafting and planning

the content page to the left is the content page that i based my content page on. i attempted to make it look similar but i don't think it is. i used a similar layout and tried to make it resemble kerrang as much as i could. when i make my final magazine i will use a similar layout but use a different house style. i like the red white and black house style but it is very hard to make the pictures that i use look good with it. when i make another content page i will have my picture taking the up the top half of the page. because when i made this content page it was very difficult to space my text because i didn't have alot of room for the content list.

Drafting and Planning (comparison)

this is the magazine that i based my cover on. it has similar features as i wanted to recreate the cover in my own way. i used this cover to make sure i wasn't making my bar code, mast head and other features too big or too small. this was a huge help to me as i am new to creating magazines of this quality. i used the same layout to the kerrang cover as i think that it was one of the best looking covers that kerrang has produced. i also used the same font for the white text at the bottom of the cover as i couldn't find another font that suited the style and look of the magazine.

Drafting and planning (content page)

this is my improved version of my content page.
i added in the bands that i included on the front cover to my content page. by doing this my magazine is consistent as i am including the bands that are suppose to be included in the magazine.
i added a pug in the bottom right of the content page to fill in the empty space as it was too big an empty space to leave. i think that the improvements i made have made my content page look better.

Drafting and planning (front cover)

this is my improved version of my front cover.
i added another cover line so the empty space in at the bottom of the page was filled. i think this has made my magazine look better as i was unsure about what i could do to fill in the empty space.
i added a pug in the top right of the cover to entice the readers to buy the magazine. i looked at how kerrang use pugs and they always use a shape to put behind it. i used a saw blade as it has the sharp edges which is usually the type of shape kerrang tend to use.

Organisaiton

tomorrow i will receive more improvements for my magazine and i will add them in on Friday. at this stage it is important that i keep getting regular improvements to make to my work so i can avoid making basic errors and also so i know what to included on my front cover, content page and my double page spread to make it as realistic a magazine that i can. i don't think i will have to make too many more improvements to my magazine but i will probably have to move alot of my text and pictures around which wont be too hard to do but it will just take a little while to do because i will have to move about 40 layers around to make it all fit on the page.

organisation

i have made my some of my improvements to my magazine and i will release them in a few days when they are fully complete. i will include more content on my front cover because even with a PUG and another cover line i feel like i am leaving alot of empty space. i have forgot to include the names of bands in my content page that feature in the front cover. i will need to do this to make the magazine more constant. my double page spread is still in need of a pull quote so i will need to think of a suitable quote to include. to help me improve my work i will continue to look at my target magazine (kerrang) so i can create a check list on what to included to make my magazine the best possible magazine that i can create.

Organisation (magazine improvements)

The improvements that i need to make to my front cover:
i need to add another cover line to fill in the empty space at the bottom left corner. i should insert a PUG which will say win tickets to a gig or festival. the festival or band i chose will need to be named in my content page so the magazine is consistent.
The improvements that i need to make to my content page:
i need to add in a small box in the bottom left to fill in that small gap. i will need to keep to the red color scheme so i am going to use a red box with white writing so it will match the red banner at the top of the page.
The improvements that i need to make for my content page:
i need to shrink the text/boxes so i can insert a pull quote. i will have the text/boxes covering half of the first page and have a pull quote to cover the top half of the left page and a bit on the top right page.

Target audience (survey monkey)

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Y5HBTF5

the link above is to help me organise my double page spread could you please answer the survey so i can have my target audience's opinion on my magazine

Drafting and planning

when i create my double page spread i will have to create a article so the double page spread can act as an exclusive. some of the magazines that i have recently looked at don't stick to the typical questions and answer style as some take a "documentary approach" in which they state what the artist has done in their career and the artist gives their input to what is included in the article. i could take this approach as it is an effective and simple way to create a good interview for my readers.
i have also looked at other rock magazines and a lot of the time in exclusives the article is just questions that they have asked the artist. for the article i am going to ask my target audience what they believe would be some good questions that they would like to ask. by doing this i will have suitable questions that would reach my target audience and my target audience would be giving me a lot of help by giving me the questions that are going to be used. later in the week im going to make a survey monkey to help me to realize my target audience.
at this stage i feel that taking the question and answer approach will best suit my magazine because my target magazine (kerrang) take this approach and i feel this is the best way that i can create an effective interview for my double page spread.
